Virtual guitar

Play notes across a 12-fret neck in standard guitar, electric synth, or bass synth mode. Use a pointer, touch, or keyboard. No sign-up.

Choose a voice

Every tone is generated in your browser. Electric and bass are synth voices, not recordings or amp models.

Interactive six-string guitar fretboard. Strings from lowest to highest: low E, A, D, G, B, high E. Choose a position to play.

No note selected

Pointer or touch: choose any string and fret.

Keyboard: arrows move, Home selects open, Enter or Space plays.

Sound begins after you play a note because browsers block autoplay.

How to play the virtual guitar

Pointer, touch, and keyboard input reach the same notes. Click or tap a string and fret, or focus the neck and use the arrow keys. Press Home for an open string, then Enter or Space to play.

The note name, string, and fret remain visible after every selection, so sound is never the only feedback.

What the voices mean

Standard guitar uses plucked-string synthesis in E A D G B E tuning. Electric synth uses a bright oscillator voice. Bass synth uses a darker oscillator voice on a four-string E A D G neck.

All three voices run through the Web Audio API. No samples or amplifier models are loaded.
