What is Strumly?
An overview of Strumly: the AI guitar coach, the free practice toolkit, and how the pieces fit together.
Last updated
Strumly is a 24/7 AI guitar coach built by Suede Labs AI. The core of the product is a coaching relationship: you tell the coach what you're working on, it runs you through drills, it scores your chord changes against a real beat grid, and it remembers what happened so the next session picks up where the last one left off.
Around the coach sits a toolkit of standalone practice tools — tuner, metronome, chord library, scale trainer, strumming trainer, ear trainer, looper, backing tracks, transpose tool, and more. The tools work without an account, straight from the browser.
The two halves of Strumly
The coach is a chat-based session with memory. You sign in, open a session, and work with it the way you'd work with a teacher: name a goal, get a drill, play it, see your score, adjust. At the end of a session the coach writes a summary and a next-session focus, so nothing resets between visits. Coaching has a free tier — 3 sessions a month, with unlimited drills inside each session — and a Pro tier for unlimited sessions.
The tools are single-purpose utilities that do one job well:
- Tuner — chromatic tuner using your microphone, free forever, no sign-up.
- Metronome — plain, accurate click with tempo control.
- Chord library — fingering diagrams and chord reference.
- Scales — the scales guitarists actually use, mapped on the fretboard.
- Strumming trainer — pattern practice against a click.
- Ear trainer — interval recognition drills.
- Backing tracks — progressions to play over.
- Looper — record and layer phrases in the browser.
- Transpose — move a song's chords to another key or capo position.
- Songs — chord sheets with play-along.
- Amp Lab, Rig, and Bench — tone, signal-chain building, and rig diagnostics.
Who it's for
Strumly is aimed at players who already know some basics and want to break through a plateau: nail a specific chord transition, tighten timing, learn the fretboard, build a practice habit that survives a busy week. The coach assumes you know what a chord is. It gives specific feedback on your specific weakness rather than walking you through a fixed curriculum.
Complete beginners are welcome too — the learning path and the free lessons cover chords, scales, and intervals from first principles, and the coach will meet you at whatever level you tell it you're at.
What it costs
During early access, everything is unlocked free. The planned pricing when early access ends: the tuner stays free forever, the rest of the toolkit unlocks with a one-time $5.99 seven-day pass (not a subscription), and coaching stays free at 3 sessions a month with a $19.99/month Pro tier for unlimited sessions. Details are on the pricing page and in Account & billing.
